11 July 2006: ACT LearnScop...
Tuesday 11 July 2006

On Tuesday 11 July, ACT LearnScope held a professional development event at the Canberra Institute of Technology's Reid Campus.
Twenty seven participants were actively engaged in the all-day event. The day was comprised of three, hands-on sessions.
The first session introduced the participants to the highly acclaimed, Elluminate (virtual classroom) software and Ken Gooding
of the 2006 New Practices Project via the online classroom. For those who had not experienced Elluminate before, this interactive
session proved to be an exciting opportunity as Ken gave a thorough account and demonstration of the software. Ken encouraged
the participants to interact with the 'virtual' whiteboard and familiarise themselves with the functionality of the software.
The second session was lead by Scott Taylor, the local representative of SWiSHzone. In this session, participants learnt how
to use SWiSH Presenter, (software that efficiently reduces PowerPoint files to a Flash format for uploading to the web). Participants
were lead through a hands-on, step-by-step process using the software.
The final afternoon session was a workshop run by the ACT LearnScope Manager, Moir Holmes. Moir introduced 'Tools from the
web' through a CD that Moir had constructed, comprising ten, self-paced, engaging activities. These activities included: Toolboxes,
Google Earth, Hotmail, Moblogging, Bulk SMS, Blogging, Creating mp3 files, Meet O matic, Survey Monkey and Flickr.
